The passion and imagination of the Edo Period artists are captured in the ukiyo-e woodblock prints and paintings and on the gold-gilt byobu folding screens and fusuma sliding doors of the era. Their stunning and marvelous dynamism is set free to the present day by digital technology in a captivating audio-visual presentation projected on a massive screen.
TECHNOLOGY
2-gigapixel ultrahigh-definition digital masters reveal the truth of ukiyo-e.
DTIP (Dynamic Texture Image Processing) technology developed by Ars Techne Corp. translates these ukiyo-e masterpieces into ultrahigh-definition digital masters. Everything from the uneven surface detail that reflects Hokusai and Hiroshige’s skilled touch to the delicate fiber strands in the traditional washi paper has all been successfully captured and reproduced with three-dimensional realism.
Digital “Hokusai × Hiroshige” section with ultra-high resolution digital images
58 of the best selections from “36 Views of Mt. Fuji” and “53 Stages of the Tokaido Highway” will be introduced on more than a dozen large monitors.
Massive projections of the ultrahigh-resolution data represent the fantastic world of gold.
Cutting-edge digital scanning and multi-layered data images processing captures materials such as the gold leaf, gold foil strips, gold flakes, and gold dust of the byobu folding screens and fusuma sliding doors, and the subtle difference of artists’ expression. Stories exquisitely depicted by Sotatsu, Korin, and Jakuchu come to life in vibrant detail.
SPACE
Images on the 45m-wide triple-panel widescreen and original music create an unmatched art experience.
Commentary theater area
In the commentary theater area, ultra-high resolution digital images magnify the artwork’s details. Narration (with English subtitles) explains the painting in an easy-to-understand manner.
